Japanese Granny Square Knot bag crochet

Hi friends, assalamu alaikkum. Hope all are doing good. I made the knot bag with granny square. Think I am late in viral trending.

A Japanese granny square knot bag crochet project beautifully combines traditional crochet motifs with the elegant, functional design of a Japanese knot bag. This style features the iconic asymmetrical handles—one long and one short—allowing the bag to close simply by looping the longer handle through the shorter one. By using granny squares as the main construction element, the bag gains texture, color, and a timeless handmade charm.

The foundation of this bag lies in crocheting multiple granny squares, which can be classic, solid, or decorative variations. These squares are joined together to form the body of the bag, offering endless opportunities for creativity through color placement and stitch design. Crafters can use bold, contrasting shades for a modern look or soft, neutral tones for a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Japanese design principles. The handles are typically crocheted directly onto the bag for strength, often using tight stitches to ensure durability.

Yarn choice plays an important role in the success of a granny square knot bag. Cotton or cotton-blend yarns are ideal due to their strength, stitch definition, and reduced stretching. Lining the bag with fabric is a popular finishing touch, adding structure and preventing small items from slipping through the square openings.

A Japanese granny square knot bag is both practical and stylish. Its flexible construction makes it suitable for casual outings, markets, or as a unique handmade gift. This crochet project is especially appealing because it blends classic granny square techniques with a modern, functional silhouette, resulting in a bag that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
