Pongal Karumbu (Sugarcane) Crochet

 

Hi friends, welcome back to my blog. Today we will see a simple, very simple pongal sugarcane crochet. It's called Karumbu in Tamil. I have already posted Pongal pot  , in our channel. So next will be Sugarcane . Without further ado, let's get in the project.

Crochet Terminology:

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

dc- double crochet

tr- treble crochet

hdc- half double crochet

slst- slip stitch

SC2Tog - Single Crochet 2 Together

DC2Tog - Double Crochet 2 Together

hook: 3mm

Written Pattern:

Step 1 : Magic ring.

Step 2 : 5 SCs in that ring. Slst to the 1st stitch.

Step 3 : Pattern : 2 SCs in each stitch. Slst to the 1st stitch.

Step 4 :chain 2 . Pattern : 1 HDC in each of the back loop. slst to the 1st stitch. 

Step 5 : Chain 2 .Pattern: 1 HDC in each stitch. Slst to the 1st stitch.

Step 6 : Repeat step 5 till the height needed.

Step 7 : Add the stuffing.

Step 8 : 1 SC in each of the back loop. slst at the end.

Step 9 : SC2Tog,... till end of row.

Step 10 : Cut off yarn & sew.

Step 11 : slipknot, followed by chain 20.

Step 12 : 1 HDC on the 3rd chain from hook. Continue doing 1 HDC on each stitch, till end of row.

Step 13 : chain 1 & turn.

Step 14 : slst in the next stitch.

Step 15 : chain 7.

Step 16 ; slst on the 2nd and 3rd chain from hook.

Step 17 : 1 SC on the 4th to 7th chains. 

Step 18 : slst on the next 2 stitches.

Step 19 : Repeat steps 15 to 18 till end of row.

Step 20 :  Cut off yarn and sew with the brown body part.

Step 21 : Karumbu (Sugarcane) is ready!!!
